What Heard knows about you, and why.

Heard is made by Good Use Studio. We collect as little as we can to find your titles and keep your list, and this page says exactly what that is.

Using Heard without an account

As a guest, your saved titles, watched marks, streaming services, recent searches, and the note of where you heard each save are stored only on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.

If you sign in

You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. We store:

  • Your email address, to sign you in.
  • Your saved titles, what you've marked watched, and the streaming services you pick, so your list follows you.
  • When you save a title from a link, the creator's handle and the platform it came from (for example, @someone on TikTok), kept with that save. It's deleted when you remove the save or delete your account. What you typed to find a title stays on your phone.
  • If you use Household: the household's name, the names you give its members, the email addresses you invite, and what the household is watching. Other members of your household can see these.

When you capture something

When you type a clue or paste a link, Heard sends it to our servers to work out which title you mean:

  • Typed clues may be sent to Google's Gemini API to interpret them.
  • Links are read by our servers. For Instagram, TikTok and Reddit, we use Scrape Creators to fetch the public post (its text, and for some posts its images, captions or audio) and Google's Gemini API to read it. Every post goes through a content-safety check before titles are read from it.
  • Searches for titles, posters and streaming availability go from your phone to The Movie Database (TMDB).

We don't keep the posts we read or searches you don't save. We keep a short-lived record of the titles a link produced, so the same link loads faster for the next person, and a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address to limit abuse.

When you write to us

If you send a message from the Contact page, it's emailed straight to our inbox with the topic you picked and, if you give it, your email address. We use your email only to reply, and we don't add you to any list.

Analytics

We use PostHog to count a handful of anonymous events, such as "a capture was submitted" or "a title was saved". These events carry an anonymous ID created on your phone, plus numbers and title catalog IDs. They never include what you typed, your email, or your IP address (PostHog discards it). We don't use advertising identifiers or track you across other apps.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account data until you delete your account. To delete it, open Account in Heard and tap Delete account, or email us. Deleting removes your email, saved titles, watched history and streaming services.

If you created a household, it passes to the member who joined earliest; if no one else is in it, it's deleted. If you're a member, your name stays in the household's history without being linked to you.

Children

Heard isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the data we hold about you by emailing us. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under local law, and we'll honor them.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app.
